Lignano Sabbiadoro sorge su una penisola formata e modellata dai sedimenti del fiume Tagliamento e dalle correnti del mare Adriatico. Gli otto chilometri di arenile si distinguono per la presenza di una sabbia finissima che sembra aver trattenuto i colori caldi e dorati del sole.
